Policemen as you’ve never seen them before....
Constables from Witney, supported by some of their wives, put on a lighthearted revue to entertain elderly residents of Witan House in the town in 1971.
The show, entitled The Policeman’s Lot, was compered by Chief Inspector JF Jones and included a tribal dance by The Tahiti Truncheon Ensemble – eight constables, complete with grass skirts and boots, pictured above.
Another group calling themselves The Bent Penny played and sang modern folk music, while 10 police wives called Bobbies’ Beauties performed the Charleston.
There was also music, singing, rhyme and what was described as an ‘up-to-date’ strip by The Lovely Lily (Jim Brown).
