TWO years ago Ron Robinson spent his 58th wedding anniversary in hospital recovering from a heart attack.
But thanks to the devoted care of his beloved wife Joan, and his own determination to get better, the couple have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in style, surrounded by friends and family.
The great-grandparents, from Kidlington, met outside a shop in Headington when Mr Robinson was a young man, and Mrs Robinson, nee Rees, a teenager.
After courting for three years they married in Headington, on March 28, 1952 and moved to Beckley, before moving to Kidlington 30 years ago.
Mr Robinson, 84, a retired greengrocer, whose father used to own Robinson’s general shop in Headington, said he most loved his wife’s kind and caring nature.
He said: “When I was ill two years ago I don’t know what I’d have done without her. I vowed then that I’d get better so we would celebrate our 60th wedding anniversary together.”
When asked the secret to a long and happy marriage Mrs Robinson, 79, joked: “He is a very kind and gentle sort of man, we just look after each other. Some people ask us how we’ve done it after all these years, and I lie and say we’ve never rowed.
“But we are best friends.”
“There’s not a lot we do without each other,” Mrs Robinson added.
The couple celebrated their wedding anniversary with a day out at Waddesdon Manor, in Waddesdon, Buckinghamshire, and a party organised by daughter Paula and Deborah.
