I cannot say that I agree with Glynn Limmer on his solution to hospital parking charges (Oxford Mail ViewPoints, March 24).
While agreeing that there are probably no political parties who would support hospital patients other than to treat them as potential vote-catchers, Glynn’s solution of everyone insisting that they use hospital transport in order to bring that system to a standstill exposes those people who genuinely cannot travel to the hospital without using the supplied transport.
There is a good bus service to the Oxford hospitals, which runs from the Water Eaton park-and-ride centre.
Car parking is still free at this site but if Glynn Limmer sets out to get the park-and-ride parking charges removed at the three city council-run centres, he would be making a positive step towards helping people across a wide spectrum, visitors to Oxford and residents of Oxfordshire.
Let us not also forget the traders in town who make their own contribution to the city’s revenue via their business charges.
Therefore, removal of that charge would also make travel to the hospitals, for those able to travel to the park and ride centre, more attainable and affordable, without putting at risk out-patients who cannot even travel to the park and ride under their own steam.
Please don’t try to jeopardise a vital service for those people.
