Brave six-year-old Adam Sokoli has proved he’s a fighter by enduring chemotherapy treatment for leukaemia since he was four.
So perhaps it was no surprise that the 4 Rifles light infantry unit were so keen to meet the Wolvercote Primary School pupil.
Adam, who has already told his proud mum and dad he wants to join the Army, suffers acute lymphoblastic leukaemia and has monthly rounds of chemotherapy at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.
He did not think twice about accepting an invitation to meet the soldiers at Bulford Camp in Wiltshire.
His mum Emma, 31, of Bourne Close, Cutteslowe, said: “He was just stunned – he loved it.
“They gave him lots of little gifts to take home with him.
“They made up a uniform for him specially with all the medals.”
Mrs Sokoli and her husband Grant were invited to the base after she mentioned Adam’s condition to a friend who is connected to the unit.
She added: “They picked us up from the house – it was an amazing day.
“It was all just for us.
“They treated him just like he was signing up to the army and let him look at the guns and go on the vehicles and meet the colonel.
“He’s still talking about it every day.”
Captain Steve Harris said: “Adam had two wishes; one of which was to spend the day with the Army, and 4 Rifles decided to grant this wish.”
