A FAIR to help connect aspiring volunteers with organisations that need help attracted almost 100 people yesterday.
The Volunteering Fair took place at Oxford Town Hall, in St Aldate’s, and 37 groups were on hand to offer volunteering opportunities.
Organisations including the Citizens’ Advice Bureau, the Big Issue Foundation, Pegasus Theatre and Oxfordshire Football Association took part.
Aspiring volunteer Peter Lefort, 26, of East Oxford, said: “I thought it was great to see how many opportunities there are for people.
“It can be difficult if you want to get involved in something but do not know what opportunities and resources there are for you.
“Being able to link people up with support and opportunities is important and the fair was very impressive at achieving that.
“Volunteering is so easy and rewarding but making that first step can be very difficult.”
The event was organised by Oxford City Council.
Communities and neighbourhoods manager Angela Cristofoli said: “We are delighted that 37 community and voluntary groups came along to the event and that nearly 100 people attended. Those who attended now have lots of ideas about what they can do.”
