I ENJOYED the article about Nunnery Close (Oxford Mail, Saturday March 17).
I was the first occupant of the police house at number 1 and John Meadley was next door in number 2. Sadly, he died in Reading in February.
Cowley police station did not exist, so I worked from the Police Box near Cowley Marsh.
There was plenty to do.
Thefts from the building sites were most common as folk did DIY on their new homes, stealing breeze blocks qand bricks to build garages.
In 1964, I went on to the CID and in January 1965 moved to Kidlington.
I married in 1962, and three daughters and a tabby cat later, my wife and I will have our Golden Wedding later this year.
I enjoyed my time on the beat in Blackbird Leys, and was kept busy, but I am still glad I moved here.
