IT has been a big month for Oxford’s newest community radio station.

OX105.4FM started broadcasting on February 27.

Bosses hope its successful month will be the first of many to come.

Chairman Geno Humphrey said: “It’s running well. These are obviously the early stages, so it’s going to take a while to get it up to the standard we want.

“But we’ve had a lot of feedback from the public and they’ve been really positive. There’s definitely a place for us here.”

The station provides a daily mix of music, news and discussion about Oxford, covering the Leys, Rose Hill, Cowley and surrounding areas.

Mr Humphrey said: “It’s important that people know it’s not just for Blackbird Leys. We’re here for the whole east of Oxford.”

The station is run by volunteers in a brand new studio at the Blackbird Leys Community Centre.

Volunteers and residents worked to build the studio and technical area, as well as a reception, kitchen area and bathroom The station first went live in a 10-day pilot in 2006 and it received a five-year licence from regulator Ofcom in 2009.

It is broadcast on 105.1FM and online. For more information, visit ox105fm.com.
