STAFFORDSHIRE Bull Terrier type dogs have been seized by police after a 21-month-old child was attacked in Cowley.
The toddler was walking with his mother in Horspath Road, near Brasenose Driftway, when they were attacked by two dogs which were unaccompanied and not on leads at about 12pm on Saturday.
The boy was bitten on his right leg by a brown and white dog and was taken to Oxford’s John Radcliffe Hospital for surgery.
He has since been discharged.
Police were called and have seized two dogs from a nearby address in the interests of public safety while they investigate.
Pc Eleanor Batty said: “I would like to reassure the public that we have seized the dogs believed to be responsible for causing these injuries and I ask that anyone else who may have witnessed anything contact police in order to assist us with our investigation.
“I would like to speak to anyone who may have in the area of Horspath Road or Brasenose Driftway between 11.30am and midday on March 24 or have witnessed the dogs in the area.”
Anyone with any information should contact Pc Batty on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
