SPLURGE guns at the ready, the cast of an all-singing, all-dancing performance of Bugsy Malone are taking to the stage at Oxford Academy.
The production, the first musical put on by the school, was premiered on Wednesday. The two public performances last night and tonight are the first chance for the community to see the school’s new Beecroft Theatre in use. A cast of about 50 pupils are taking part in the show, based on the 1976 hit film starring Jodie Foster.
The audience for Wednesday’s performance was made up of pupils from the city’s Rose Hill, John Henry Newman, Pegasus and St John Fisher primary schools.
Troy Marshall, 14, from Littlemore, front left, who plays Bugsy, said: “It was great fun using the splurge guns and I enjoyed singing my Down and Out solo.”
Caitlin Dickenson, 14, from Greater Leys, who plays Blousey Brown, said: “This experience has really helped to build my confidence. I would love to do more singing parts.”
Tonight’s performance starts at 7.30pm and tickets, priced at £6, are still available.
