It is indeed a “travesty of democracy” as councillor John Tanner says (Oxford Mail ViewPoints, March 14) that a one-person county council ‘committee’ can make a significant decision, such as that on controlled parking zones.
But, hang on a minute, isn’t this the same councillor Tanner that voted, along with his Labour colleagues, to introduce one-person ‘committees’ to the city council?
Isn’t this also the same John Tanner that debates with himself as the sole member of a city council decision-making committee. I think we should be told.
