FOUR years ago, children in an Oxfordshire village were devastated when they were told their football club was about to fold.
A lack of players and help from parents almost spelled the end for the Kingston Colts, from Kingston Bagpuize.
But after being saved by committed parents, the club’s under-11 team, pictured, has just completed a record season in which they went unbeaten and were crowned champions of the Witney League, scoring 90 goals on the way.
Vice-chairman Simon Froud said: “We’re all absolutely over the moon.
“We were so sure the team was going to fold and now four years later, here we are with such strong teams. It’s fantastic.”
Mr Froud said: “This is a fantastic achievement for a small village football team.
“They’re the first team in recent village history to top the league and remain unbeaten.
“It’s something the whole community can get behind.”
Mr Froud said: “Some of the boys on the team have even caught the attention of several football scouts.
“It’s a lovely story for everyone in the village. We’re proud of all the parents and children who are helping make the club a success.”
Player Joseph Kidd said: “It’s really cool, because we went top on the first day of the season and even though everyone wanted to beat us, we stayed top all season and won the league.”
