AN elderly man was rescued from his home by fire fighters last night after a fire broke out in the kitchen.
Crews from Rewley Road Fire Station were called to a report of a flat fire in Ridgemont Close, Oxford at 11.45pm.
Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue said the alarm was raised by a neighbour who heard a smoke alarm sounding, and saw smoke in the adjacent flat and called for help.
On arrival crews discovered a heavily smokelogged ground floor flat The elderly male occupant was rescued and taken to the John Radcliffe hospital by ambulance.
