Headteacher Mark Chesterton will be among those charged with carrying the Olympic torch from Oxford to Reading.
Mr Chesterton, who has been head of Larkrise Primary School in East Oxford since 1988, was nominated for the honour by parent governor Jane Littlehales.
He said: “I feel quite chuffed firstly to be nominated and secondly that I seem to have got through and been chosen. I’m very proud to represent the school, the families and the community of East Oxford.”
Mr Chesterton, who said his own sporting achievements included playing for the same cricket team, Greys Green based near Henley, for 50 years, did not yet know what part of the route he would run.
He said: “I’m hoping it will be somewhere near the school so they can come out and celebrate. We will be planning activities to mark the Olympics probably on that day.”
In her nomination, Ms Littlehales said: “His passion about the school, the pupils and staff shines through the dullest days.”
