YOUNGSTERS dressed up as their favourite book characters to mark the end of Reading Week and raise cash for their primary school.
West Oxford Community Primary School’s pupils took part in a sponsored walk around their playing fields, off Ferry Hinksey Road, yesterday.
The school hopes to raise £120,000 over the next few years to improve the fields.
During the past week, pupils have been taking part in book activities as part of Reading Week to help improve their reading ability.
Cian Huckins, eight, dressed up as Wally from the book series Where’s Wally? and completed 12 laps of the field.
He said: “The walk was very good and I really enjoyed the dressing up. I really, really like reading and this helped me to read better.”
Parent Saskya Huggins, who is co-ordinating the playground appeal, said: “Today was absolutely brilliant and the fancy dress was amazing.
“We were expecting them to do 10 laps but some of them wouldn’t stop going. The record was 20 laps.”
