AN OXFORD charity is hoping to revolutionise the way it provides care with a new minibus.
Yellow Submarine Respite, based in Park End Street, provides respite breaks for children and adults with learning disabilities.
In the past year it has helped nearly 50 families, with trips to Bath, the Kassam Stadium, London’s O2 Arena and Blackpool.
But it is entirely reliant on staff cars and hire vehicles, which severely limits the charity’s scope.
Deputy manager Caroline Weston said: “Having a minibus would mean we had a much greater flexibility and be able to help more people.
We are restricted to how many people we can fit into our cars and hire vehicles are expensive, so having a minibus would make such a difference.”
The charity has raised £15,000 through grants and needs another £4,000.
In October 2011 the charity was judged the best new voluntary or community group at the Oxfordshire Charity and Volunteer Awards.
