The last time they saw each other, they were schoolgirls in long socks, kept in line by a host of strict nuns.

Now some 56 years later, the old girls of Our Lady’s, in Abingdon, are preparing to meet up again.

And it is hoped this picture of the class of 1956 will jog memories for women who once attended the Catholic school.

Judith Henman, nee Didcock, found the photo of Form II in 1956 while planning a reunion in May.

The grandmother-of-six, who is pictured here fourth from the right in the front row at the age of 13, said: “We did have a lovely time. Sports day was always good and we used to play some unusual games.

“I remember one where we had to balance a jam jar of water on our heads.

“My best friend at the time, Bridget Martin, would always win.”

She added: “The school has probably changed a lot since our day. They were quite strict.”

Mrs Henman, 69, who became a teacher herself and still teaches part-time said she hoped others will have similarly fond memories of the school in Radley Road.

She said: “I think my main memories are of friendship.

“And if anything went wrong, all of us would form a barrier against it. We were all great friends.”

The reunion at the Radley Road school begins at 10.30am on Saturday, May 12. It is open to all of the school’s past pupils.
