Long before the opening of a bazaar in aid of Banbury Old People’s Club in 1965, crowds filled Church House, eager to spot bargains. There was plenty of jostling at the numerous stalls at the event, which was opened by Neil Marten, Tory MP for North Oxfordshire.
The picture on the right shows four members of Banbury Ladies’ Circle taking a breather during rehearsals for the town’s annual Old Time Music Hall in 1974. Joan Anley, Sue Anker, Maureen Watkins and Maureen Clarkson were part of the chorus.
Members of Banbury Flower Art Group received awards in 1968 for their flower arranging in a ceremony at the Town Hall. Left to right in the picture below are Chloe Brummitt, the winner, Mary Wilson, mayoress, Mrs Blincowe, group president, Mrs Honey, group chairman, and Mrs Randolph Harper, runner-up.
