I AM 82 years old and have been using the Temple Cowley Leisure complex since it was built in the 1930s.
Oxford City Council executive board member for leisure services, Van Coulter (Oxford Mail, March 5) is correct in saying that the complex is past its sell-by date. It should be demolished and replaced with a modest community complex, similar to the one which the councillor for Barton has provided for the residents he represents.
The new complex could be built behind the existing building on an unused area of the large school playing field. The old complex area could then be made into a landscaped car park.
When the present economic situation improves, a water park with a 50m pool could be built on council land opposite the Horspath Road athletic track. Blackbird Leys could have its town green and everyone would be happy – except the city council of course.
