WE constantly hear that it is a travesty regarding the closure of Temple Cowley Pools and a new swimming pool at Blackbird Leys, but how often do we hear from the other side?
Both of my children learned to swim at Temple Cowley and, as such, it will be a sad day when it closes. However, has anybody once stopped to consider the children who train at the pool day in and day out?
In an age when we complain that children roam the streets, are drinking, are obese, have no commitment and little drive, I can assure you that there more than 250 children who portray the traits we wish others to have: children who get up at 5am to train before school, come home, train, do their homework, go to bed before beginning it all again.
I work hard so my son can swim. I give up my free time (and most of my wage) for his drive and ambition to one day make the Olympics.
We want a pool of which this city can be proud and there is now a worry that we won’t even have a pool.
With two members who recently competed at the Olympic trials, the city swimming club is finally on the rise.
These are children with drive, ambition, commitment and dedication, who do not own the premises of their club but have to rely on the renting out of premises.
Please do not forget their silent voices.
