Chris Harris is a well-respected headteacher and pupils at Larkmead School in Abingdon are lucky to have him.
That’s why they were quick to defend him in a protest at the school on Monday in the furore over the school’s ‘exam wall’.
Despite Mr Harris now admitting that it had been a misjudgement on his part, the pupils knew he had done it with the best of intentions in a bid to inspire them to greater academic heights.
And surely everyone in this world is prone to make a mistake in some shape or form from time to time, aren’t they?
After one national newspaper had rather unkindly mocked up a picture of him in a dunce’s cap, Mr Harris must have been touched by his pupils’ show of support.
Mr Harris did not hide away when his school became the focus of a media storm, but explained his motives for setting up the ‘exam wall’.
And, more importantly, he demonstrated he had enough strength of character to admit the whole episode had been a mistake.
One questionable decision certainly does not make Mr Harris a bad headteacher.
Despite the setback, it will not stop him from constantly looking for new and innovative ideas to help bring the best out of his pupils and staff.
