A 22-YEAR-OLD man was stabbed twice with a knife and sprayed with pepper spray in a night-time attack in Abingdon High Street.
The victim was taken to Oxford’s John Radcliffe Hospital after being attacked just after 9.30pm on Friday and was released later that day. Police released details of the attack yesterday.
Michael Samways, of Abingdon Sports in High Street, said he had heard nothing about the attack: “We haven’t had the police in, it’s a normal day today. No one has said anything – it’s probably because people haven’t heard.
“We’ve been here for years and have never had any trouble.”
Abingdon councillor Aidan Melville added: “Violent crime isn’t common at all in Abingdon.
“It’s usually quite peaceful. I know the Abingdon street pastors were out on Friday night but not at that time. That’s the kind of thing they are working to avoid. Incidents like this are always concerning and need to be monitored.”
Daniel Norris, 24, of Virginia Way, Abingdon, has been charged with grievous bodily harm, possession of a knife and possessing a weapon for the discharge of a noxious liquid.
He appeared at Oxford Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
