WITNEY residents showed their continued support for ethical goods at a fair trade market.
The market, organised by Witney Area Fair Trade Action Group, was the first since Witney gained fair trade status last year.
It was held in Langdale Hall on Saturday and attracted 1,000 people to browse African textiles, Peruvian jewellery and other fair trade goods.
WAFTAG coordinator Wendy Maddison said: “It was very well attended and shows the people of Witney have taken the concept of fair trade to their hearts.”
She said the group now planned to hold a fashion show and a fair trade pub quiz in the future.
As well as the 15 stalls, the market featured entertainment from choirs Songscope and Voicebox and Ducklington handbell ringers.
Paul Langley, 39, said: “It was fantastic to see so many stalls. Fair trade makes a big difference to the poorest producers and it seems interest is growing.”
His daughter, Martha, 10, said: “I enjoyed the jewellers – they had some really nice little gems.
“It is really good to help the farmers and their profit.”
