IT might not look any more exciting than the boiler at any school, but the newly installed equipment at Stadhampton Primary School is in fact a low-carbon biomass boiler, running on wood pellets instead of oil or gas.
Stadhampton is the first school in the county to install the advanced kit, which is expected to save up to £500 a year in fuel.
And the school will also be able to claim £2,500 a year through the Renewable Heat Incentive, covering the installation cost.
Headteacher Kathryn Turner said: “We are thrilled with our biomass boiler, which is so efficient, we haven’t had to empty the ash pan yet. This gives weight to our environmental teaching.”
The school decided on the technology as their 20-year-old boiler was due for replacement.
