DIAL-A-RIDE cuts will provide the “best and most widely available service” within limited funds, a county council boss said yesterday.
The number of buses for the door-to-door service is to be slashed after district councils removed or cut cash.
The county council paid half the costs and will continue to put the same amount of £160,000 a year in, but no more, slashing available buses.
County cabinet member for transport Rodney Rose said: “It’s no secret that customers in some parts of the county will notice a reduction in service levels.
“But we have taken on the task of creating a truly countywide service with a much-reduced overall level of funding at our disposal.”
Currently, Oxford gets two buses a day, West Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse districts get one and Cherwell gets between five and seven.
South Oxfordshire gets none. Only Cherwell is putting extra cash in.
Under the changes, all will get “at least” one bus a day, run by the county’s own fleet.
The changes will take effect from Monday, April 2.
