IT’S fair to say that Pc Paul Phillips was always looking for trouble.
But not any more. After nearly 30 years as the scourge of football hooligans in Oxford, he is retiring from Thames Valley Police.
He does so in the knowledge that he’s done a fantastic job – as the praise heaped upon him this week amply proves.
Soccer yobs are a tiny minority among United supporters. But it only takes a few to cause mayhem and the spotter role filled by Pc Phillips has become a vital one. We wish him well and look forward to welcoming his replacement. They have some big shoes to fill.
