We are saddened and angered to read that the application for town green status on well-used green land in Blackbird Leys is likely to be rejected by the county council.
This would lead to an unrecoverable loss of open land in an area which already has less than it needs and deserves.
The villains of the piece are the Labour-led city council who want to close Temple Cowley Pool and the existing Blackbird Leys pool and build a single pool on the green space in Blackbird Leys.
This white elephant project would deprive East Oxford of its well-used pool, while depriving Blackbird Leys of well-used green land, which would never be replaced, at huge expense to the people of the whole city.
