I see that John Tanner is calling upon us all to “stand shoulder to shoulder with the Greek people”.
While most Greeks that I have met are charming, hospitable people, I think it would be absurd for the people of Oxfordshire to feel any obligation to support a country that has maintained unaffordable levels of public welfare and subsidy by borrowing to a level that it cannot afford to repay.
Greece also regards tax evasion as a national game and they seem to expect others to pay for a standard of living they can’t sustain themselves.
It can be no surprise that the always radical Mr Tanner wants to support policies that lead to inevitable national bankruptcy.
I can only suggest that the fairest way for us to help Mr Tanner to achieve his personal wish is to have a whip round to pay for a one-way EasyJet ticket to Greece.
