THE Story Museum is recruiting angels, heroes, knights in shining armour and fairy godmothers to help out with its upcoming programme of events.
A fairytale opportunity for children who never grew up, volunteers will help welcome visitors to the Pembroke Street museum’s forthcoming exhibition, Other Worlds.
Publicity officer Cath Nightingale said: “The Story Museum is looking for champion volunteers.
“Magic powers optional. We need stewards to help with our exciting events programme, starting with Other Worlds in May.
“Villains and baddies need not apply.”
She added: “This is a great opportunity for people to be part of the Story Museum and to have a sense of being there from the beginning.
“They will share stories with our visitors and be part of an exciting development which will have a worldwide reputation.”
Successful applicants will have a sense of mischief, have the proven ability to spin a yarn and a desire to share stories with the public.
The Story Museum opens in 2014, but before then a series of exhibitions and events will need a creative cohort of helpers to keep things running smoothly.
The next special exhibition will see the dilapidated building in Pembroke Street brought alive as a compendium of stories with artists and storytellers teaming up to turn each room into a different story.
They will tell strange and haunting tales using video, words and plants to explore another world of secrets, lost property and time travel.
The exhibition runs from May 1 to May 27 and will be followed by a full calendar of events celebrating the fictional world.
Ms Nightingale said: “We’ve got a rather exciting and interesting happening, probably in June – which is rather intriguing.
“We’ve got a lovely exhibition, Tea with Alice in the Summer, which is an international exhibition with art from illustrators all over the world who have illustrated Alice in Wonderland.
“There’s quite a lot going on.”
Volunteers will also be needed to help out with Alice’s Day events in July.
Ms Nightingale said the team was keen to hear from a broad range of people with lots of different experiences who could add to the museum’s stock of stories.
“We are very keen on bringing in stories from everywhere,” she said.
