Sir – Could someone please explain to me what the mayor of Abingdon is doing? In his imagined position of power his latest brainwave following the ‘Abingdon on Thames’ idea is to push to get Abingdon back into Berkshire by moving the county boundary. There is absolutely benefit to this for the ordinary person in Abingdon.

Most I imagine do not care and those that do surely want to be associated with Oxford not Reading.

Far from putting us “back on the map” it seems that with both these ideas all it would amount to is a fortune spent on reprinting letterheads and changing road signs.

Why does he not champion something that is worthwhile, rather than anything that I think he sees as his legacy to the common folk. Perhaps there is a road somewhere which could be named after him and then he would be happy and would stop forcing his outdated views on the rest of us.
