Sir, Very little is heard of the rights of the alumni of Oxford University these days. Yet they are the first port of call for most fundraising. They are usually classed as 'non-resident MAs'.
Their college and university rights are limited. They can elect the Chancellor and the Professor of Poetry. They may gain fresh rights as lay-members of the new university council - but not of Congregation - the university parliament.
Colleges could offer more dining rights - as some Cambridge Colleges do - and also the use of guest rooms (when available) on a London club basis.
At this time of great upheaval, the university is experiencing, I am campaigning for a bigger and better say for every MA - resident or non-resident!
Pieter Zwart, (Non-resident MA), Woodstock
