The man's body was found at 4.25pm yesterday in a wood in Jackdaw Lane, east Oxford.
The scene has been cordoned off since then while police look for evidence.
A post mortem examination is expected to take place later today, after the body has been removed from the scene.
Det Insp Simon Morton, of Oxford CID said: "It was dark last night and we needed to come back this morning to examine the scene in daylight.
"Scenes of crime officers are searching the area for evidence and we will be recovering the body."
