Unlike Dereen Ayris (Oxford Mail, September 27), I welcome the Radar Key Scheme which gives the disabled access to thousands of toilets.
She moans about a meagre £3.50 one-off payment for years of access to these facilities countrywide.
She says she is not worried about the money, but the principle - why should she have to pay because she is disabled?
I think she has lost the plot. When I bought my Radar Key, it cost me a lot more than £3.50 but has been worth every penny and I'm very grateful.
It is a wonderful service. The toilets run through the Radar Key Scheme are 95 per cent of the time clean and tidy and are always easily accessible. Surely this is a good enough reason to contribute the meagre sum charged by Oxford City Council?
Most of these toilets are, thank God, kept securely locked to ensure they are not vandalised.
We, as disabled people, should try to be constructive with our comments, not decry what we already have. You could debate facilities for the disabled for ever and there would always be disgruntled customers, but Ms Ayris should try to be more accommodating because her comments only stir up resentment of us. So please, the general public, don't think all disabled people believe they should have everything free.
Some of us just get on with life. Yes, we have a good old moan when it is right, but otherwise appreciate what we do get.
I have a false leg, which cost nearly £2,000, and have modifications every year, totally free. My other leg is badly damaged and I have a specialised calliper for that, again free, so what have I got to moan about?
