A great display by Abingdon Youth secured the win to confirm the OMBL Red U9’s league title today at Lambrick Way.
After a slightly slow start, Abingdon started to find their form and took the lead through Arnau Gasso from close range, this seemed to remove a few nerves but Tower Hill equalised after Abingdon failed to clear a corner.
With Abingdon’s defence being well marshalled by Koby Reynolds, they started to push forward and search for more goals. The Tower Hill defence were put under continuous pressure now and it was not long before Abingdon scored again via James Rivers firing in a fine free kick from outside of the box. More efforts followed but the game ended 2-1 to the home team.
In the second game Abingdon were soon playing some great flowing passing football, sweeping the ball from back to front. Chances were being created and the Tower Hill goalkeeper was being kept very busy.
The first goal arrived via a good finish by Casey Highmoor. Abingdon’s midfield of Woodhouse, Highmoor & Phipps were now in full control creating wave after wave of attacks. Abingdon’s second was a great headed goal from a corner, by Lincoln Moreton . The third was a coolly taken penalty by Steven Woodhouse. Credit to the Tower Hill Goalkeeper for keeping the final tally to only 3.
Abingdon Youth League Champions well deserved for a consistent year’s team performance.
