Leaders Windrush Social Club got their first taste of defeat in the Oxford & District Winter League this season when they lost 5-4 in a thriller away to fellow Premier Section opponents Goodlake Arms A.

Playing the pairs first, Goodlake took a 2-1 lead which they increased to 3-1 when Dave Exell beat Bob McNamee 3-1.

The visitors reduced the arrears after a win from Ryan Bull (180), before Pete Jones restored the home side’s two-game advantage by overcoming Darrell Steele 3-1.

Windrush captain Martin Bull kept his side’s hopes alive, only for Preben Krabben to beat Mick Kearns for a winning 5-3 lead.

In the final singles game, Ade Larner defeated Kevin Wilkins to narrow the gap to 5-4, hitting a maximum 180 and a 138 finish.

George Bar visited Section 2 rivals Corner House B and were soon 3-0 up, thanks to Carl Pitson, Darren Hughes and Barry Wells.

The home side fought back to level via Mick Kennett, Mark Kerry and Dylan Davies (180), but the George would not be denied and a 2-1 pairs win sealed a 5-4 victory.

League newcomers Red Lion Eynsham won 8-1 at Nuffield Lounge in Section 2.

Section 3’s Donnington Community Centre B visited Littlemore Rugby Club and got off to a great start as Dave Swanton, Gary Cox and Lee Cox gave them a 3-0 lead.

Stan Crawford, Jim Crawford and Dave Rudman pulled it back to 3-3 before a 3-0 pairs victory sealed a 6-3 verdict for Donnington.

Marsh Harriers hit top form when they visited East Oxford Conservative Club, cruising to a 7-2 triumph.

Ladies Section 1 leaders Butchers Arms were 7-2 winners away to Red Lion.

Maggie Dexter-Naylor gave the visitors a 1-0 lead before Lion bounced back with wins from June Rouse and Kaylee Vigor-Horsley.

That proved the end of their success however, as Sue Poyser, Sam Merrifield and Greta Britnell increased Butchers’ lead to 4-2 before winning the pairs 3-0.

Premier Section leaders Nuffield went down 5-4 to Blackbird Bar.
