DETECTIVES dubbed a bank heist in Summertown as something “more like the 1980s than 2012” as they yesterday released more details of the robbery.

Robbers locked the terrified manager in a walk-in safe at Lloyds TSB in Banbury Road on Thursday morning after forcing the 51-year-old to hand over a large amount of cash.

One thug is described as white, about 30 years old, 5ft 10ins tall, with a grade one shaved head and was unshaven.

The other was a black man, aged about 25, 6ft with tight curly hair and thin features whose head was covered.

The two masked men threatened and slapped the bank manager who saw a knife in a bag they brought with them to pile the cash into.

DI Simon Morton said: “It’s really rare for a bank to be robbed – it’s more like the ’80s than 2012. We’re not only looking locally, but nationally for similar offences and are scouring CCTV. I’ve got eight detectives on the case.”

It is believed the robbers used two getaway cars, a black hatchback and a silver Vauxhall Zafira, which both sped off towards the city centre.

DI Morton added: “The offenders were quite calm and very directing.
