FURTHER to my letter on January 13 and to Ben Cumming’s letter (Oxford Mail ViewPoints, January 16) about lost post, we can all safely assume that if a postman has a letter or parcel for you, he is going to put it through your letter-box.

Most letters and parcels are lost between the sender and the sorting office.

One of the undelivered parcels I referred to in my letter has now turned up.

It took 15 days to travel 70 miles from Bournemouth. I could have walked down and collected it in that time and without going via Swindon.

Who decided it would improve the postal system for Oxford if all Oxford’s post was sent 35 miles to Swindon, sorted and then sent back for delivery?

Could this be where mail goes adrift?

I shall be able to claim a replacement for the lost parcel in 15 working days. I shall make the claim via email – at least I can guarantee it gets there.

Incidentally, our postman goes out of his way to ensure he delivers, even calling back with parcels if there’s no-one home – and going out of his way to do so.
