LAST Thursday’s armed robbery at a bank in Summertown in Oxford (Friday’s Oxford Mail), along with the latest crime figures, which identify big rises in robberies and street crime, surely bring into question the Government’s 20 per cent cut to police funding.
This is one area which all reasonable people agree shouldn’t be subject to over-zealous cuts, especially when the Government is proposing wasting £100m, the equivalent of funding 600 full-time police officers, on directly-elected police commissioners.
The Conservative policy of cuts to police funding is damaging to our community and I call on Prime Minister David Cameron to rethink this reckless policy and protect our police.
