Sir, Last week you printed a letter from Lynda Pasquire in which she accused elected members of being rowdy and arrogant at their last full council meeting. Has she never seen Parliament in action?
I cannot speak for those on the left-hand side of the chairman (being the Conservative group) but I will not accept her version of my behaviour, in which she says I shouted at the guest speaker whilst he was at the microphone.
I listened to all he had to say and I found it to be offensive and inaccurate, because he accused our planning officers of being unprofessional and incompetent. Nothing could be further from the truth because they are all well-qualified and experienced professionals. As always, they were in no position to defend themselves and, after the speaker had finished, I did use the word 'rubbish' because that's exactly what it was. Unfortunately, he walked back through the members' area, close to my seat and he overheard me say the dreadful word which was actually addressed to my colleague and not to him.
For Ms Pasquire to misconstrue facts in this way does her case no good. We are entitled to ask: "Have all her other facts been of the same quality?"
