A prisoner has been found hanged in his cell, the Prison Service said today.
John Hughes, 31, from Cowley, Oxford, was discovered by staff last night.
He had been on remand for burglary at HMP Bullingdon, near Bicester, since September 11.
A Prison Service spokesman said staff attempted to resuscitate Mr Hughes and paramedics were called but he was pronounced dead at 9.16pm.
"The cause of death appears to be hanging," the spokesman said.
Police, the coroner, and next of kin have been informed and the prisons and probations ombudsman will carry out an inquiry as with all deaths in custody.
The spokesman added: "Every death in custody is a tragedy and our thoughts are with the family and friends of Mr Hughes."
