A football match has been organised in memory of popular milkman Pete Hawkins, who died in March.

The inaugural match for the Pete Hawkins Memorial Shield will be on Sunday at Brackley Town Football Club, with kick-off 2pm.

The match will be between a Phil Lines Invitation XI and Oxford Veterans - last season's national over-35s champions.

The Invitation XI will include former Leicester and Manchester City player David Oldfield, and the Veterans will feature ex-Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa star Gary Parker. The match official will be Banbury's Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher.

At half-time, cheques from the Pete Hawkins Memorial Fund will be presented to Katharine House hospice, Brackley Town FC, Banbury United FC, and the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance.

Admission to the match will be £2 for adults and free for children. All proceeds go to the memorial fund.

Mr Hawkins, of Kings Sutton, was 47 when he died suddenly on March 18.

He was a keen supporter of Banbury United and his son Perry has played for the club's reserve and under-18 sides.

Mr Hawkins was a committee member at Brackley Town FC and was the public address announcer on match days.

Memorial fund secretary Ronnie Johnson said: "The match will be an opportunity to join Pete's family in a celebration of his life and enjoy a game of football, which was a major part of his leisure time.

"The sudden death of Pete is still deeply felt by his family, friends and we hope the match will be a worthy tribute to his kindness and continued memory."
