Oxford's Miss World contestant Eleanor Glynn froze as she sang in the talent section - and is on the verge of crashing out of the contest.

People in Oxfordshire are now being urged to text their support for Miss Glynn and help her secure a place in the final 16.

Miss Glynn, 20, from Sandford-on-Thames, was one of 20 women shortlisted to take part in Friday's talent round at Warsaw Opera House in Poland.

The Miss England winner had high hopes of impressing the judges and being fast-tracked to the final on Saturday.

But she was gripped by nerves and did not deliver on the night.

Angie Beasley, organiser of Miss England, said: "Her voice went quivery, and she was shaking.

"She is disappointed with herself for allowing nerves to get the better of her.

"Apparently, the girls were all telling her that she was going to win because she had been singing so well in rehearsals, but when she was being filmed for the competition itself, the nerves kicked in.

"Miss Northern Ireland won the talent round - she managed to hold it together on the night."

Miss Glynn, who sings in a funk band in Oxford called Kilter, was singing her own version of Rainbow's heavy rock classic Since You've Been Gone.

Miss Beasley added: "Eleanor didn't win the beachwear section or sports section either, and I don't think she will win the charity section because one of the girls from the Asia-Pacific has raised more than £1m for charity.

"Her best chance now of getting through to the last 16 is if she gets a large enough number of text votes to impress the judges.

"Altho- ugh Eleanor didn't win the talent section she is still having a ball - she said it has been the experience of a lifetime."

The beauty queen, who won Miss England earlier this year, did not get off to a good start when her pink suitcases containing thousands of pounds worth of jewellery, music for the talent show and her hairdryer were stolen at the airport.

Her mother Patricia immediately flew out to Poland to take her the essentials she needed for the competition.

Miss Glynn, who works for a medical company in Cowley, has auditioned for the TV show The X-Factor, and this week featured in a photo shoot for Hello! magazine. She is also appearing with other Miss World contestants this week on Challenge TV.
