POLICE in Banbury have arrested seven people, searched seven houses and executed one search warrant in connection with a series of burglaries this month.
The main area targeted was Bretch Hill around to Highlands. There were 20 offences mainly involving garages, although many of them did not have items stolen from within.
Two men have been charged in connection with the series and have been remanded in custody.
John Green, 34, of Bretch Hill, Banbury, was charged with burglary. He appeared on remand at Banbury Magistrates' on September 20 where he pleaded guilty. He was further remanded in custody to appear at Oxford Crown Court on October 16 for sentencing.
Michael Lilley, 34, of Hearthway, Banbury, was charged with handling stolen goods and possession of cannabis. He was remanded in custody and appeared at Banbury Magistrates' on Friday. He pleaded guilty and will appear court at a date yet to be set.
Police said inquiries would continue against another five people arrested on suspicion of burglary. The four men aged 33, 30, 25, 17, and one girl aged 20, have been bailed until October 19 and 21.
This investigation was undertaken jointly by the Cherwell Priority Crime team, Banbury shift officers and the Neighbourhood Team.
Det Sgt Ian Hunter, who heads up the Priority Crime Team, said: "This should demonstrate our determination to tackle reported crime immediately in a rigorous and thorough manner. A large amount of property was recovered some of which was identified as being from these burglary offences.
"Residents should be re-assured by the swift and positive action and reminded that their information is invaluable to us and are encouraged to report any suspicious activity or knowledge they have of suspects."
