Oxford-based SEAT driver Jason Plato hopes to end Vauxhall's five-year reign as the manufacturers' champions in the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at Brands Hatch tomorrow.

The Spanish manufacturers hold a 92-point lead over Vauxhall ahead of Sunday's races in the penultimate round of the series at the Kent circuit.

SEAT are also in contention for the teams' title but trail Team Halfords Honda by 41 points.

Matt Neal, of Team Halfords, has a healthy lead in the driver standings so SEAT drivers James Thompson, Jason Plato and Darren Turner will look to maximise the manufacturers' points rather than concentrate on individual glory at Brands.

Plato said: "We're on the verge the manufacturers' title and can still win the teams' trophy, but the job's not over yet and we have to remain very focused.

"The Leon works well around the Brands Indy circuit, but the racing's extremely close there and it's easy to get caught up in somebody else's accident."

Plato, the 2001 champion, added: "When we've had a good qualifying session this year we've had a good race day.

"On saying that, we've had an awful lot of bad luck as well, yet we're still leading the manufacturers' championship, so I'm pretty confident we can achieve something very special this weekend."

Turner knows his main objective at Brands has to be to score points for SEAT, but he is also hungry for a maiden BTCC race win having come close last time out at Knockhill in Scotland.

Turner has been combining his racing in the BTCC with the American Le Mans Series but hopes to take advantage of successive races in the British series.

He said: "I haven't been back to America to race in the ALMS since my last BTCC outing, so it's not like I'll have to dial my way back into the SEAT Leon like I have had to do, so coming straight from racing at Knockhill will be a big help."
