The first day of National Children's Bookweek brings Adrian Mitchell and Ian McMillan to the Oxford University Museum of Natural History.
Now in its fourth year The Children's Bookshow is the only annual national tour of writers of children's literature. Timed to coincide with National Children's Book Week and National Poetry Day, the tour is supported by Arts Council England.
Adrian Mitchell's books include Daft as a Doughnut, Zoo of Dreams, and he has edited The Orchard Book of Poems and A Poem a Day, all published by Orchard Books. He studied for three years at Christ Church before being conscripted into the RAF.
Ian McMillan, originally from Barnsley, Yorkshire, has been described as "the Shirley Bassey of performance poetry". He has written comedy for radio and television as well as the stage. He is the regular presenter of The Verb on Radio 3.
A new guide to children's poetry is being published by Barn Owl Books to tie in with their tour, entitled Universal Verse: Poetry for Children.
The poets will be at the museum on Monday, October 2. Full details of the tour can be found at the www.thechildrensbookshow.com website.
Poetry Matters - the Children's Bookshow brings the best Children's Poets to young audiences throughout England during National Children's Bookweek (October 2-8).
