Property and construction consultancy McBains Cooper, based in Oxford, has been shortlisted for a top award. The company was behind the new Gloucestershire Police headquarters which has gone to become a finalist in the Best Bespoke Office Development outside Central London in the IAS/OAS Property Awards, organised jointly by Property Week, the Industrial Agents Society and the Office Agents Society.
The £20m building has already won several awards including the National Built in Quality Awards for its innovative, environmentally-friendly heating and cooling system and the Most Environmentally Friendly Building in the Gloucester Civic Awards 2006.
Keith Young, director of architecture at McBains Cooper, said: "We are thrilled to be nominated for this award as we believe the new building and design have made a huge difference to people's working lives.
"We wanted to create a striking and noteworthy building but also a functional one which would meet current and future operational needs of a dynamic and changing workplace."
Built under a 30-year term Private Finance Initiative contract, the building has been designed for maximum impact on a prominent 8,500 sq metre roundabout site in Quedgeley, near Gloucester.
The building is being used by up to 400 staff and is four storeys high.
McBains Cooper provided architecture, cost management, engineering services, civil & structural engineering and planning supervision to the scheme.
The winner will be announced on October 11.
