A WANTAGE couple are celebrating after winning a pub of the year title.
Brewers Greene King crowned The Lord Nelson, run by managers William Hollinsworth, 39, and his partner Pamela McLauchlan, 40, the best Hungry Horse pub in the UK, beating competition from more than 150 rivals.
The Pub of the Year Award is presented to the pub which has been recognised as the most consistent high achiever over the year.
The couple, who have three children, moved to the pub in Charlton Road, from a pub in Stirling, Scotland, two-and-a-half years ago.
Miss McLauchlan said: “We have beaten pubs from all over the country so we are absolutely delighted and our customers are pleased for us too.
“We have a low staff turnover and I think that helps to create a happy atmosphere.”
