OSCAR winners and local filmmakers will come together to help an Oxfordshire film festival celebrate its third year.

The Witney Film Festival runs on Wednesday and Thursday next week.

Last year’s event attracted about 200 people to the Corn Exchange in Witney, but organisers hope by extending it to two nights they will attract more.

Films on show inlcude The Lost Thing, which won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short in February.

Founder and producer Jenny Learney said: “We had such great feedback from the first two festivals, we decided to run it over two nights. It’s really exciting – we’re hoping it’s booked out.

“There’s something for everyone and people enjoy it because you don’t expect a film festival in Witney.”

Filmmaker Toby Hopkins, 42, from Black Bourton, near Bampton, will be showing his film Love and Passion… Julian’s Review….3.10pm.

He said: “It’s brilliant to have a festival on your doorstep.”

Other films featured include feature-length Island, directed by Brek Taylor and Elizabeth Mitchell.

The festival is at the Corn Exchange from 7pm on Wednesday and at St Mary’s Church from 7pm on Thursday.

The free festival started in 2009 when film studies graduates Daniel Newton and Miss Learney wanted to screen his final year film.
