I have recently been an in-patient in the neuro-science department at the John Radcliffe Hospital and I would like to say how impressed I was with the care I received.

The nurses and care workers were always extremely pleasant and gave me the appropriate care.

The call button was always answered promptly (which is very important when one is a patient who cannot move from one’s bed).

I was very lucky to have a private room with a huge picture window overlooking the pretty Oxfordshire countryside (this being the result of a modern, purpose-built building).

People come from all over the country to be treated in this unit.

The patient who was operated on before me was brought up from Cornwall. I feel we should be grateful to have such a wonderful facility on our doorstep.

The standard of staff, from the doctors to the cleaners, was excellent. I know the JR has recently received some bad publicity regarding the quality of the food.

The food was edible and of a much better standard than I have had in hospitals in the past.

I also noticed that if a patient needed help with eating there was a care worker to help them.

We are always very quick to criticise and not so quick to give praise when it is due, hence my reason for writing this letter.
