COAST presenter Neil Oliver charmed readers at Waterstone’s in Oxford as he signed copies of his new book.

The queue started at 9.30am yesterday, with the presenter and writer not due to arrive until 1pm.

By the time he reached the store in the city centre, the queue was snaking around the block.

About 90 people came to meet Mr Oliver, buy his book and have their picture taken with him.

Bookseller Liz Chadwick said: “People started arriving really early in the morning — there was one couple who had come all the way from York.

“He spoke to them as they came along and he was very friendly.

“There were some very excited women.”

He was signing copies of his new book, A History of Ancient Britain.

Mr Oliver has appeared on Time Team, The Face of Britain and Two Men in a Trench as well as Coast.
