On October 3, George Osborne said he intends to lend tens of billions to small firms.

I ask, with the state of our economy and the billions we already owe, where are all these billions going to come from?

We have all this trouble with Eurozone bosses because their dithering will have an awful, knock-on effect for the world. But Osborne is also going to give a £200m cash injection for science and £150m to extend mobile phone coverage. Funny really: he can suddenly find all this money when he wants to do something, but can’t find the money to keep our services up and running.

Government policy, it seems, is always the same: we’re all right, Jack.
